Christmas in Sparkly Summary!

Christmas in Sparkly Summary!

The Xmas tree is expertly decorated and styled.

The Xmas tree is expertly decorated and styled.  The house is not falling down in the background, that is an illusion.  Clever eh?

T'was the night before Christmas, when all through the house........Not a creaure was stirring, not even a mouse....... but if you listened very, very carefully with your special Xmas ears you could hear the distant sound of vomiting at about 4.30am.

Takeaway Xmas dinner. I was supposed to be making it all at mum's house, but because we had the dreaded up-chucking bug we thought it best not to go round. My mum meticulously made all the turkey dinner (even the starters!), bagged it up in plastic sealy bags and Horace went and collected it. Not ideal, but couldn't be helped.

My mum meticulously made all the turkey dinner (even the starters!), bagged it up in plastic sealy bags and Horace went and collected it. That’s a huge round of applause for my parents.  I’m biased, but I reckon I have the best mum and dad in the world.  Felt awful that they had to spend Christmas Day on their own, but Norovirus for Xmas is not a nice gift.

Spent a couple of days at Grandma and Grandad's and had a lovely evening at a family party. I went to bed at about 8.30pm with bellyache. I think everyone else had a great time. I didn't completely miss out though. In true owl fashion I woke up at 2 am when everyone was going to bed. Shucks.

And here is the reason why we have had a truly traumatic Christmas or 'the worst Christmas ever' as Darlek put it........it's a BUG. Ok, so maybe it's a bee, but it was the closest photo I could find to a bug. To the untrained eye it definitely looks bug-like.

And here is the reason why we have had a truly traumatic Christmas or ‘the worst Christmas ever’ as Darlek put it……..it’s a ‘BUG’. Ok, so maybe it’s a bee, but it is sort of a bug. To the untrained eye it definitely looks bug-like.  We have had coughs, colds, throwing up, random scary spots, belly aches and an all round excess of bugs.

Next year we will have a fabulous Christmas, bugs will be banned.  I shall bath the kids in Dettol for the weeks preceding Christmas and no-one will be allowed to cough, sneeze or go slightly green.  December is a no go zone for Norovirus and snivelling snuffles.  Or else….’Or else what?’ you might say.  I dunno.  Perhaps I’ll just get some anti-bac spray and run around the house like maniac screaming ‘Die, you mother-fecking, Xmas ruining, putrid, minging little bugs!’  ‘Die, Die, Die!’   Next year will be different…..

I don’t over react to crises at Christmas.  I think I’m one of those earthy goddess types who takes everything in their stride.  Erm….like…..yep.  *stares sheepishly at feet, which incidentally are in purple slippers.  I got two pairs of purple slippers for Christmas.  I think people might think I have chronically cold feet and an obsession with purple.  I am happy.  I always lose my slippers, so if I have four of them I am guaranteed to always be able to find at least one pair – even if they are slightly different shades of purple and different sizes.  Knowing my luck I’ll find two left feet, same old, same old I suppose….*

Oooh, and I got a fabulous blue and black stripey onesie for Xmas.  MUST mention this.  I think I look like Thing One or Thing Two from Dr Zeuss (except a different colour).  Horace thinks I look like I’m in some strange sci-fi outfit.  All I know is that I am warm as a very, very warm thing and would live in it given half a chance. Bliss, I can wander around like a Dr Zeuss character or a space being, wearing purple slippers for the vast majority of 2013 now.  I is a fashion icon.

Tons more to write about Xmas, but to be frank, I’ve just had a Lemsip and my chest hurts from coughing so I’m going to stop writing and start sleeping.  Hope you all had a lovely Christmas, bug free preferably. xxx

The Balloon Baboon!

This is a sponsored post for the most wonderfully named and gallantly generous Balloon Baboon!  They recently donated a very cute bright red cheeky balloon baboon (funnily enough) and a balloon penguin to my Penguin Amnesty blogging campaign in aid of PostPals and they’ll be sending a Penguin balloon directly to a Post Pals child too.  Having seen these balloons I can assure you’re they’re as cute as their company name.  Here they are in residence in my front room!

They’re keep fit fanatics and spend most of their time balancing on the bike in the front room shouting ‘Whooooosh!’  They’ve told me they’re practising for the Penguinlympics.

Let me tell you, I’ve tried making balloon animals and creations and it’s not easy to make anything more complicated than a snake!  I got a book and a kit once, but unfortunately they missed out the talent bit.  I turned myself inside out trying to blow up the balloons, made them squeak lots and if I was lucky I managed to tie a knot at the end.  Eventually I decided it was more fun to just blow them up and let them go so they blew loud raspberry noises and rocketed around the room.  My kids were sadly disappointed.  (awww….)

A far easier way to find quality inflatable balloons is to come and have a look at this site, I’ve been amazed to see what they have on offer.  Call me a soppy romantic, but these were my favourite:

These are so sweet! How could anyone not go all gooey over a bunch of flowers like these!

You see, they don’t just make sausage dogs for kids parties!  I think this one is amazing too…I’ve gone all patriotic after watching the Olympics and the Paralympics you see.

Proudly ‘Made in Britain!’

I’ve been to many parties in my time, and I’ve never seen anyone make balloon creations quite as well as the Balloon Baboon does.  I’m wondering if this is a self portrait….

Imagine a couple of these at a jungle themed birthday party!

The penguin and the cute as a button baboon I was sent lasted for just under two weeks, before they deflated, which is great value for money.  If you bought a real bunch of flowers for a similar amount I’m not convinced they’d last as long – and these crafted balloons have so much more ‘fun-factor.’  We adored them and I’ll certainly consider buying from in the future.  They’re really original and from having dealt directly with them I can vouch for their friendly attitude, professional packaging and speedy delivery.

I was surprised at how well our penguin and the baboon survived in the post.  The penguin arrived with a base filled with water so it stood upright and it was really well snuggled into its box, so it really did look as if it had just been made.

I seriously think seeing is believing when it comes to these balloons.  If you visit their website they are currently offering free mini samples and they’ll send you an extra little present if you pay for delivery (£3).  Please click HERE if you’d like to have a look at this offer. Be quick!

If you can’t reach someone to give them a cuddle, post them a ‘Loving Bear’ instead.

Please do have a wander around the Balloon Baboon’s website and marvel at what they can do.  I’m in awe of their talents and if you want a really unique, memorable present, I don’t think you can go far wrong with these.  Love them, love them, love them!  (I’m sorry, I’m gushing terribly, but they are adorable)

Sensational Sequins – Galt Toys

Sensational Sequins – Ponies!

 from Galt Toys

Galt Toys sent me a kit called Sensational Sequins which has been a huge hit with my daughter who even went so far as to say ‘This is the best craft thing you’ve ever been sent mum!’  So there’s a recommendation for you!  Darlek doesn’t mince her words and could just as easily have turned round and said ‘Mum this is crap!’ but she didn’t.  She really, really liked this!

This is what the ‘Sensational Sequins – Pony’ set looks like.

Pink Ponies and Sparkly Sequins!

…and this is what it looks like once the packet has been opened.

Nice uncomplicated equipment! Two pictures to complete, one wax crayon sequin applicator, and five different coloured packs of sequins.

The top picture is white because it still has the paper covering over it, the bottom one has had half of the paper removed so you can see the picture and the colours more clearly.

You see, this kit works on stickiness.  It could even have been called ‘Sensational Sticky Sequins!’ but I suppose that’s a slightly less sparkly kind of name.

The method is very straightforward and Darlek needed barely any instruction at all.  The pictures come with a paper layer that you peel off in ready cut sections revealing a picture underneath, covered in different coloured sticky circular spots.  Next you take your wax crayon, dab it on a sequin which automatically picks it up via static (or magic, I’m not sure which), and then you attach your sequin to the appropriately coloured sticky spot.  Pink sequin on pink circle, purple sequin on purple circle for example.

It’s like doing cross stitch without the cross or the stitching, or paint by numbers without the paint or the numbers.  That is the best way I can describe this kit.  The process is so simple, so easy, and so effective!  I’ll be honest, I’ve spent a while this evening trying to find grown up versions of sequin art because I want a go myself.

The paper is removed in sections so you can rest your hand on something that isn't going to stick to you. Very clever!

Sensational Sequins isn’t over fiddly and doesn’t contain equipment that looks flashy but doesn’t do anything much – it’s really downright practical.  I did wonder at first if the pen was unnecessary, but it does genuinely help you to aim the sequins more accurately.

Sausage desperately wanted to play with the shiny sequins. You might want to store them in little egg cups maybe as they stick to everything!

The only thing that was even slightly negative was that some of the sequins weren’t cut accurately, as in they were slightly misshapen.  On a picture like this where each sequin is placed separately in its own space, this did stand out a little.  A couple of the sequins had also lost their colour too, probably due to being swished around in the box a lot while being made, transported and packaged.  A really tiny point, but I just thought I’d make it because I’m awkward like that.

A Sensational Sequinned Pony! Darlek completed this in about 40 minutes which was brilliant.

If craft projects take too long to complete a lot of kids lose interest.  As far as I can tell Galt Toys have very neatly come up with activities that take an optimum amount of time for the age group they are catering for.  The only thing I wonder about now, is how long the sequins will stay on for.  I suppose if carefully stuck on the wall it will be a couple of months or so.

I’ve been very impressed with Galt Toys and their products so far, they really do seem to care about the quality and practicability of their crafts and toys.  If you’re looking for birthday presents or easter presents, or just something to occupy the kids on days when you need to hide in the kitchen and eat easter eggs without them hassling you – I do recommend their products, and that’s not just because they’ve sent me toys, it’s because they’re good at what they do.  Or at least I think they are.

Sensational Sequins – Ponies costs £5.99 and can be found HERE if you’d like to buy your own.

Galt Toys sent me this Sensational Sequins – Ponies kit to review, no other financial reward was given.  :O)

12 Days of Christmas – Morbs!

12 Days of Christmas! – Morbs!

Day 10 of the Christmas inspiration list!  Morbs! Personally I think the name is horrendous, if I said ‘I’ve got Morbs!’ you’d maybe think they were some race of super nits I reckon. But no!  They are Battle Morphing Orbs that look like this:

Morbs - A Super Sonic Jet! Not a type of Indestructible Nits.

From reading the packaging it seems the Morb is the little man pictured with the big yellow sunglasses / flight goggles.  Also, from a quick Google it seems they come in all shapes and sizes and are one of those ‘Must Have!’ toys this year.

Google images also brought up an image of someone with Moobs (If you don’t know what they are, you’re in for a giggle), I presume someone was having a bad spelling day.

So anyway!  These apparently ‘Transform, Shoot and Crash!’ and are suitable for ages 3 +.  My youngest is most certainly not going to get a lifesize helicopter, no matter how many times he asks, so this will have to do!  It actually looks really cute and what child doesn’t like a toy plane?

Perfect as stocking fillers, these ultra collectable orbs transform and instantly morph into a fun fantasy character. Little ones can roll, throw, blast or bounce the ball to discover the big headed, small-bodied warrior inside!”

If you’d like Morbs for Christmas (much nicer than Mumps or Moobs) you can find them HERE from Flair from £2.49

12 Days of Christmas – Signature Edition Etch-a-Sketch!

12 Days of Christmas –

Signature Edition Etch-a-Sketch!

Of all the toys, gadgets and thingumajigs I’ve included as part of the 12 Days of Christmas inspiration list – this is my absolute favourite and features as number 8.  It is a 50th Anniversary Signature Edition of Etch-A-Sketch – a special one which features the inventor’s signature and classy gold turning buttons.  Beautiful! If you hold it in your hands, it feels heavy and like something you’d treasure, daft as it may sound.

Remember these from when you were a kid?

The one pictured isn’t half as nice as the 50th Anniversary one you can buy now.  It’s one of those toys you could buy for a grown up and get away with it.  This Etch-A-Sketch edition can be bought from Flair for £16.99 HERE!

12 Days of Christmas – Sylvanian Families!

12 Days of Christmas –

Sylvanian Families

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again!  I want to be a miniature fox and live in Sylvania and drive around in tiny motorbikes and live in a cute little house with adorable decorations and furry friends.  *sighs*.  So this is Day 7 of the 12 Days of Christmas inspiration list! I love Sylvanian Families, and if you know someone who is as soppy over them as I am, they’d make the perfect gift I’m sure.

Furry friends! Fawn Rabbit Family

I reviewed the Motorcycle and Side-car Sylvanian Families the other day if you’d like to have a nosey please click HERE!  I’m still hunting for someone who can sell me a shrinking machine that’ll turn me into a fox too if anyone knows of any suppliers?

Other Sylvanian Families can be seen here:

These dalmations are my favourite I think.

If you’d like your very own Sylvanian Family you can buy them for £15.99 from Flair HERE!
